The National Exit Test (NExT Exam) for final year MBBS students of the 2019 batch has deferred until further directions, according to a public notice from the National Medical Commission (NMC). The NMC recently introduced NExT regulations 2023, which involve phased exams and sets the basis for certifying the eligibility of medical graduates to register and practice modern medicine in India.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) released a public notice on Thursday announcing that the National Exit Test (NExT) has deferred for final year MBBS students of 2019 batch till further directions on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

However, there was no announcement made regarding the mock NExT which set for July 28, whether it will held or not.
“All the stakeholders are hereby informed that the National Exit Test (NEXT) examination deferred on the advice of the Ministry, dated 11.07.2023, till further directions from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,” reads the public notice issued by the NMC.

The NMC recently introduced NExT regulations 2023, outlining that the exam would held in two phases: NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams will conducted twice a year.
Once students clear the NExT Step 1 exam, they would complete a one-year internship, and their NExT Step 1 score would considered for admission into postgraduate (PG) courses.
After completing the internship, medical students would need to clear the NExT Step 2 exam to be eligible for obtaining a license and registration to practice modern medicine in India.
Foreign medical graduates wishing to practice in India will have to appear for the NExT Step 1 exam, complete the internship, and then pass NExT Step 2 exam to become eligible for practice.
In a gazette notification, the NMC stated that NExT would serve as the basis for certifying the eligibility of medical graduates to register and practice modern medicine in India. It would serve as a licentiate examination.
Additionally, NExT would used to determine eligibility and ranking for admission to PG medical education in various medical specialisations. It would serve as an entrance exam for PG medical courses.
The sample questions in the mock/practice test would only serve as examples of the pattern and format of the NExT Step 1 examination, as specified by the NMC.
