The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued clarification over the eligibility of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Undergraduate 2025 (NEET UG 2025). This clarification addresses some confusion that arose from discrepancies between the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) NEET-UG Bulletin 2025 and NMC regulations.

In responding to the RTI application dated 11 February 2025, the National Medical Commission (NMC) clarified that students who studied in NIOS or Private schools are eligible to take NEET UG 2025

NIOS Students Eligible for NEET UG

Further, NMC confirmed that students who have finished their education through NIOS, State open schools, or as private candidates are eligible for NEET UG 2025. This eligibility is in alignment with the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023. The commission emphasized that the mode of schooling does not disqualify a candidate from taking the NEET UG examination.

However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has already started the online registration process for NEET UG 2025.

Permission for Additional Subjects

In addition, NMC clarified that students are allowed to study an additional subject through NIOS, provided that the coursework is undertaken at an authorized institution. This provision helps students seeking to enhance their qualifications or meet specific subject requirements have a recognized pathway to do so.

Implications for NEET UG 2025 Aspirants

The announcement from the NMC brings relief to many students who were confused and worried about their eligibility for NEET UG 2025. Therefore, with NMC clarification over NEET UG eligibility, students can confidently proceed with their preparations for the examination.

The NEET UG 2025 registration process commenced on February 7, 2025, and will remain open until March 7, 2025. Aspiring candidates are encouraged to submit their applications through the official NTA website within this timeframe.

Why Do People Join the NIOS

NIOS offers a flexible education system, allowing students to study at their own pace. This helps those who cannot attend regular schools due to their personal or professional issues. Further NIOS systems provide an opportunity to study education in various subjects for those who discontinued due to poverty and backwardness

Conclusion

In conclusion, NMC clarification brings relief to the NIOS. In addition, this notice clarifies the students’ preparation for NEET UG 2025. This move not only alleviates concerns among NIOS students but also reinforces the principle that diverse educational pathways can lead to successful medical careers. However, the NEET Online registration has already started on 7 February 2025. Therefore, finish your application for NEET as soon as possible.
