The National Testing Agency (NTA) concluded the application process for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2024 on 16 March. With the board exams being over, students are now gearing up for one of the highly competitive exams- NEET UG 2024, set to take place on 5 May 2024. Among the three subjects tested in NEET UG- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology- Biology often proves to be a challenging yet scoring subject.

To get valuable insights and effective strategies for students preparing for the NEET UG Biology exam in 2024, the Telegraph Online Edugraph was in conversation with Miss Deepa Das, HOD, Biology Department at the Lakshmipat Singhania Academy.

Preparation Strategies:

  • Understand the weightage of different topics to prioritise your study plan. Students need to set a timetable for NEET preparation and study for at least 10 -12 hours.
  • Preparation of classes XI and XII must be done simultaneously. Morning one hour and evening one hour solving MCQs is a must. The CBSE books seem to be simple but the details of the topic need to be known from various reference books.
  • Sometimes some questions are a bit out of the syllabus so for each topic some extra learning and understanding is also needed.
  • For conceptual understanding of NCERT is a must. NCERT must be read 20 to 30 times thoroughly. Maintaining a copy where you note down a mistake every time you make helps you to overcome it easily.
  • Reading from books of reputed publishers which are well known at a national level at least thrice is important.
  • Solving the last 10 years’ question paper is a must as it will help you understand the exam pattern, and the type of questions asked, and improves your time management skills.
  • If you are making your notes thats the best and it should also be from NCERT only not any other board. Make a note of questions asked again and again.

Last-Minute Tips:

  • Don’t touch any new topic or new question at the last moment, focus on topics already prepared.
  • Revise the formulaes and examples names of scientists if needed in the last few hours.
  • Read the notes fast for revision a week before and revise the theory topics in which you are weak.
  • Time management is a big challenge. If you come across a question, you have never seen before leave it and focus on known topics.
  • Try to solve the paper in two rounds, in the first round solve questions you know, and in the second round solve questions you were doubtful about.
  • Keep a goal to solve mock papers in 2 and a half hours.
