Is MBBS without NEET valid In India?
The NMC has issued a gazette stating that NEET is mandatory for students who wish to study MBBS abroad. The validity of MBBS degree from abroad universities without NEET is invalid. However some consultancies are sending students to pursue MBBS abroad without NEET.

MBBS in the UK without NEET?
Studying medicine in the United Kingdom is possible without NEET because UK universities follow their own entrance system. Instead of NEET, students are required to qualify exams like UCAT or BMAT, which test logical reasoning, scientific ability, aptitude and problem-solving skills. Along with that, English proficiency through IELTS is mandatory.
Admission is based on academic performance in Class 12th (mainly Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), entrance test scores, a strong statement of purpose and an interview. The MBBS degree in the UK is globally respected, and after completing the degree, students can appear for licensing exams like PLAB if they wish to work there.
MBBS in the USA Without NEET
The USA does not follow the MBBS system. Instead, it offers the MD (Doctor of Medicine) program, which is highly advanced and globally accepted. NEET is not required for Indian students, but the process follows a different pathway. After Class 12th, students must complete a 4-year Pre-Med bachelor’s degree in subjects like biology or chemistry. After that, they must qualify for the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) for admission into medical schools. Admission also requires English proficiency tests, academic transcripts and interviews. Though this path takes longer than MBBS in other countries, the USA offers excellent medical training and career opportunities.
MBBS in Australia Without NEET
Australia also allows Indian students to study MBBS without NEET. Admission into medical programs here is based on entrance exams like UCAT or GAMSAT, depending on whether the student is applying after high school or graduation. Along with this, students need to prove English language ability through IELTS or PTE. The admission process includes an aptitude test followed by a personal interview to assess the student’s interest in the medical field and communication skills. Australian medical degrees are recognized worldwide and offer opportunities to practice in countries like the UK and New Zealand after licensing exams.
MBBS in Canada Without NEET
Like the USA, Canada also offers an MD program rather than MBBS, and NEET is not required. However, students cannot directly enter medical school after 12th. They must first complete a bachelor’s degree in science or pre-medical studies.
After graduation, they must clear the MCAT exam to apply for an MD program. Some universities may also require the CASPer test, which evaluates decision-making skills and professional suitability for medical practice. Canada has strict admission criteria, but it offers one of the best medical education systems in the world along with pathways to permanent residency.
MBBS in New Zealand Without NEET
For Indian students NEET is mandatory for students to return to India after MBBS, However students do not have to qualify NEET to study MBBS in New Zealand for some universities. But the process is different from other countries. First, students must complete their 12th with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and also the candidate must clear an English proficiency test like IELTS. Then they must apply for a foundation one-year course named Health Sciences First Year (HSFY). The year provides students with a solid foundation in medical topics and readies them for further study of medicine.
On completion of HSFY with satisfactory grades, students have to sit for UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and an interview. Depending upon their academic record, UCAT score, and interview performance, students are short-listed for the MBChB program, New Zealand’s equivalent of MBBS, which is completed in 5 additional years. After they receive an offer of admission, they can apply for a student visa and pursue medical education. This route allows only well-prepared and serious students to be accepted for medical schooling in New Zealand.
MBBS Abroad Without NEET in Other Countries
Even though NEET is mandatory for Indian students to pursue MBBS abroad, students can still study MBBS in countries like Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Russia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and several others. However, to validate their MBBS degree and become eligible to practice medicine in India, students can pursue postgraduate medical education in countries such as New Zealand, the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

What NMC Says About NEET for Studying MBBS Abroad
The National Medical Commission (NMC) is the official medical regulatory body in India, and it has clearly defined rules for Indian students who want to pursue MBBS abroad. According to NMC guidelines, qualifying NEET is mandatory for any Indian student who wishes to study medicine in a foreign medical university and later practice as a doctor in India.
NMC introduced this rule to ensure that only students with the required academic ability pursue medical education, whether in India or abroad. As per the regulations, a student must qualify NEET in the same academic year in which they are taking admission abroad. This NEET qualification allows them to apply for an Eligibility Certificate from NMC, which is compulsory to validate their medical studies outside India.
However, NMC has also mentioned that students who did not qualify or did not appear for NEET can still go abroad for MBBS, but under one important condition they must obtain a special Eligibility Certificate from NMC before admission. Without NEET qualification or an eligibility certificate, their MBBS degree from abroad will not be recognized in India. This means they will not be allowed to write the NExT exam and will not get a medical license to practice in India.
Conclusion
Studying MBBS abroad without NEET is technically possible in countries like the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada, as they have their own entrance exams such as UCAT, BMAT, MCAT, or GAMSAT. These exams focus on aptitude, logical reasoning, and academic ability rather than NEET scores, making it possible for Indian students to pursue a medical career abroad. However, the NMC clearly states that NEET qualification or an Eligibility Certificate is mandatory if you want to practice medicine in India after completing MBBS abroad. Without NEET or this certificate, the degree will not be recognized in India, and students cannot appear for the NExT exam. Therefore, while studying MBBS abroad without NEET is possible, students must follow NMC guidelines carefully to ensure their medical career remains valid and secure.
