With NEET UG 2024 tentatively scheduled to take place on the 5th of May, there are not more than 6 months left for the exam. Considering that during the months of March to April, the first attempt candidates will be busy with their Board exams, it necessitates a well-structured study plan in resonance with effective strategies to ace both the NEET as well as the Board exams.

The recent amends made to the NEET syllabus come as a relief for the aspirants, as the new NEET syllabus is in alignment with the NCERT and CBSE syllabus. With major reductions and adjustments in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics, it has brought about a reduction in the course from 97 to 79 chapters. But here, it is advisable not to be relaxed, as the competition remains increasingly aggressive in the wake of the reduced syllabus.

Therefore, in order to utilise the time wisely, let’s look at some of the points to keep in mind to enhance the preparation and ace the NEET exam.

1. ANALYSING THE NEET SYLLABUS AND EXAM PATTERN

Against the backdrop of the revised syllabus, taking thorough note of the new syllabus and exam pattern is of prime importance to reduce the unnecessary burden on the aspirants. This will help focus on the important topics and develop a study plan accordingly. Before sitting for preparation, aspirants should analyze the weight given to each topic and accordingly plan their timetable ahead.

Identifying the chapters or topics with a high probability of appearing in the exam, students should dedicate more time to the important topics.

2. MAKE A STUDY PLAN

Having taken note of the syllabus and pattern, making a study plan can play a crucial role in covering the entire syllabus in time. The study plan should include time for both understanding the concepts and solving practice problems. It is also important to schedule regular breaks and take care of health at the same time.

For a more practical and effective approach, one can go for the Pomodoro technique, where after every 25 minutes of study, a five-minute break is taken to enhance focus and increase productivity.

3. LEARN NCERT BY HEART

Gauging that the new syllabus is in alignment with the NCERT books, it saves the students the additional effort of following multiple books to develop the basic concept. Usually, NCERT books form the base for competitive exams. Therefore, students can use it to the fullest to build a strong foundation for NEET as well as Board exams.

Having covered the book end-to-end, students should support it with other reference books to further strengthen their concepts and practice as many MCQs as possible to accustom themselves to the types of questions asked in exams.

4. MAKE NOTES FOCUSING ON DIAGRAMS, FORMULAS, GRAPHS, AND CHARTS

Making notes can help students keep important topics at their fingertips. Maintaining notes full of diagrams, formulas, graphs, etc. can help students create mind maps that come in handy for recollecting all the important topics quickly rather than going back to the book. By saving a lot of time, the concise notes make for an effective tool that enables last-minute revision.

5. REVISION IS THE KEY TO EFFECTIVE PREPARATION

While planning the study schedule, a separate time should be allotted for regular revision. Compromising on the time for revision can account for a failed effort, as it is very normal for humans to forget things studied over a period of time. Hence, revising at regular intervals of time ensures that students have a good hold on the topics already studied and contributes to building their confidence at the same time.

CONCLUSION

Understanding that preparation for the exam is already in full swing, the aforementioned tips are aimed at reducing the pressure on students. Simple practices can help strengthen the preparation of the aspirants, which can go a long way toward acing the final NEET exam.

Here, it is important for students to understand that in pursuit of scoring well in the entrance exam, they need to be patient enough to work towards the goal step by step. Being overworked and anxious can defeat the entire effort put into the preparation.

Therefore, along with studies, it is of prime importance that students focus on their physical and mental well-being as well. Here, exercising every day, coupled with meditation and breathing exercises, can help students maintain their overall health to cope with their studies.
