The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made significant changes to the NEET 2024 syllabus. NMC reduced nine chapters from chemistry and six from biology. The move has sparked concerns among experts and students.

The decision to cut chapters from the NEET 2024 syllabus has criticized by experts. Some of the experts argue that it is ‘unscientific’ and may add unnecessary pressure on students.

Experts Oppose NEET 2024 Syllabus Reduction

The CEO of a medical coaching academy spoke to media and said that deleted chapters were beneficial for students’ scores.

He also added that syllabus changes need to be made at the beginning of an academic year. Since the altered syllabus affects students’ preparation. and may impact their performance in the exam.

Changes in Chemistry and Biology

In chemistry, the NMC removed the following chapters: ‘State of Matter’, ‘Hydrogen’, ‘The S-Block Elements’, ‘Environmental Chemistry’, ‘The Solid State’, ‘Surface Chemistry’, ‘General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements’, ‘Polymers’, and ‘Chemistry in Everyday Life’.

The following biology chapters were removed from the syllabus: ‘Transport in Plants’, ‘Mineral Nutrition’, ‘Digestion and Absorption’, ‘Reproduction in Organisms’, ‘Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production’, and ‘Environmental Issues’.

Meanwhile, the NMC added five sub-topics in physics and biology.

What is the confusion in NEET 2024 Syllabus?

The NMC’s decision to release the NEET 2024 syllabus instead of the National Testing Agency (NTA) has led to confusion. Previously, the NTA handled the release of the NEET syllabus.

This year, the NMC’s syllabus aligns with JEE (Mains) 2024, causing uncertainty among students and coaching centers.

There is a call for clarity from the government regarding the syllabus release, with concerns about potential misalignment between NTA and NMC guidelines.
